Nitya Dholakia is a second-year student at UC Irvine studying Business
Economics and Accounting. She began learning the art of Bharata Natyam
at the age of five and has been learning under the guidance of
Ramya Harishankar for the last 9 years. Nitya had her Arangetram in 2012
and now performs and tours with the Arpana Dance Company.
Hailing from a family of musicians and dancers, Visalini (Vini) Sundaram
started her Bharata Natyam lessons at the age of 5 under the tutelage
of Ramya Harishankar and Carnatic music with Padma Kutty. She has also
studied with Palai Ramachandran (a prime disciple of Sri. Semmangudi
Srinivasa Iyer) and her late maternal grandfather, Palakkad Seshamani
Iyer (a disciple of G.N. Balasubramaniam). Vini was placed first at the
Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana Music Competition in 2007, and has been
teaching Carnatic music in Orange County for the last 6 years. She
has participated in numerous performances, both as a dancer and
vocalist. In 2014, she had her Bharata Natya Arangetram and currently
performs actively with the Arpana Dance Company.
